Acceptable use policy
Collecting public data at a considerate rate is what most customers do. Doing something to a person who did not want it is where the line is. The rules are published before you buy.
Permitted
- Collecting publicly accessible data at a considerate rate.
- Price monitoring, market research and competitor analysis.
- Ad verification and brand protection.
- Search-result monitoring, subject to the terms of the engine.
- Testing your own sites and infrastructure from other locations.
- Academic and journalistic research.
Prohibited
The list is illustrative. Anything that causes the same kind of harm is also prohibited.
- Credential stuffing, account takeover and testing stolen credentials.
- Any material depicting child sexual abuse, in any form.
- Harassment, stalking, and evading a block placed by a person.
- Fraud, including carding, phishing infrastructure and fake-account farms.
- Attacks on infrastructure: denial of service, unauthorised scanning, malware.
- Bulk unsolicited messaging.
- Volume that degrades a service for its real users.
- Accessing data you are not permitted to access, including material non-public information.
- Reselling access without a written agreement.
Grey areas
Automated account creation, collection behind a login you hold, and heavy crawling of a small site depend on scale, intent and local law. Ask before you start.
Enforcement
We act on reports sent to [email protected], and on what our own monitoring finds. We may suspend an account while we investigate and end it if the breach is confirmed. See customer vetting.
