IP rotation

Changing the exit address between requests or connections.

Rotation spreads requests across many addresses so that no single address attracts a rate limit. It is the wrong choice when a target needs the same visitor across several requests, which is what a sticky session is for.

Related terms

  • Sticky session
A session that keeps the same exit address for a period instead of rotating.
  • Rate limiting
A target slowing or refusing a client that sends too many requests, usually with a 429 status.
  • Gateway (backconnect) proxy
A single endpoint you connect to, which assigns an exit address behind the scenes.
