curl
The fastest way to confirm credentials work, and to time a request phase by phase.
Example
curl -x http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@GATEWAY_HOST:PORT https://httpbin.org/ipcurl -s -o /dev/null -x http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@GATEWAY_HOST:PORT \
-w 'connect=%{time_connect} tls=%{time_appconnect} ttfb=%{time_starttransfer} total=%{time_total} bytes=%{size_download}\n' \
https://example.com/Replace USERNAME, PASSWORD, GATEWAY_HOST and PORT with the values in your dashboard. Never commit them.
Notes
- Run the timing command a few dozen times and look at the spread, not one number. See the methodology page.
- curl keeps no state between runs, so each command opens a new connection.
Common errors
| 407 Proxy Authentication Required | Cause. Credentials missing, mistyped, or not URL-encoded. Fix. Percent-encode special characters in the username and password, or pass credentials separately from the URL where the client allows it. |
|---|---|
| Timeouts on first request | Cause. Wrong gateway host or port, or an outbound firewall rule on your side. Fix. Copy host and port from the dashboard entry for your product and test with curl first. |
Next: measure it on your real target.
